About this Workshop
Laser beams aren’t just for tormenting cats anymore. Learn to use Catylator’s Universal VLS 4.60 Laser Cutter and Engraver to create custom designs in glass, paper, wood, and metal.

This class covers the complete workflow from setting up the digital data file through processing materials on the laser cutter. Topics include:
  • Bitmap versus vector design information
  • Setting up files in Corel Draw and translation from other common programs such as Adobe Illustrator and Inkscape
  • Overview of materials that can be processed by the laser
  • Cutting, scoring and engraving operations
  • Use of the engraving bed, cutting bed and rotary tool.
  • Setting the material in the machine
  • Processing a laser job
  • You will leave the class with your own laser cut object
  • Knowledge to use Catylator's laser cutter on your own to create even more awesome projects in the future (Maybe even some new cat toys?)
Prereqs and Preparation
No previous skills needed. Please leave your cats at home.

Special instructions

For evening and weekend classes:

The World Building is closed in the evenings and on Sundays, but Catylator is still open! To get access to our space during those times, simply dial us up through the silver Sentex directory box to the left of the front door and we will buzz you in.

We understand that circumstances sometimes arise that mean you won't be able to attend a course, class, camp or workshop you have signed up for.

If you believe you are going to be late or miss a course, class or workshop, please let us know at least 24 hours before the start of class, and we will gladly transfer your enrollment to a later date. You may call 301-588-8833, or email info@catylator.com.

Due to limited spaces in our classes, if you fail to show up for a class, and you haven't contacted us 24 hours in advance, your class fees will not be refunded.
